Welcome to the Llanfihangel Ystrad Community Council Website

Llanfihangel Ystrad Community Council is situated in the heart of Ceredigion, halfway between Lampeter and Aberaeron, and midway from the north to the south of the county.

Following the reorganization of local government in 1974, when Dyfed County Council was established, Parish Councils were renamed as ‘Community Councils.’ There are approximately 880 electors in the community of Llanfihangel Ystrad.

In 1987, Dihewyd Community Council and Llanfihangel Ystrad Community Council were merged, forming ‘Ward Dihewyd,’ with around 200 electors. There are eight (8) councillors in Ward Llanfihangel Ystrad and three (3) in Ward Dihewyd. The villages in Ward Llanfihangel Ystrad are Felin Fach, Ystrad Aeron, Cribyn, Abermeurig, Temple Bar, Ffynnon Oer, and part of Pont Creuddyn, while in Ward Dihewyd, the villages are Dihewyd and Troed-y-rhiw.

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month, except August, and as needed in January, rotating between Felin Fach Memorial Hall, Cribyn School, and Dihewyd Village Hall at 7:30 pm.

One of the council’s duties is to comment on planning applications before the County Council makes a decision. Additionally, the council serves as an important link between the community and other agencies and governing bodies.

The Council works collaboratively with local communities in the area and financially supports worthy causes. It is also responsible for public seating, footpath lighting, and bus shelters.

The Council operates fully through the medium of Welsh. Translation requests on any points of interest can be made by contacting: clerc@llanfihangelystradcc.org.uk
